2080 5/29/2006 7:49:16 AM 5/29/2006 wave w5sk@earthlink.net Newell The first step is to understand that a Newell or any high end RV will depreciate 10-20k or more per year and it will be higher the first few years -as much as 100k/yr at first. So decide if your fun is worth that . Read "Rich Dad Poor Dad" - I tend to get used high end - I admire but do not have a Newell.

2081 5/30/2006 7:36:40 AM 5/31/2006 Michael Day mday@hughes.net Newell Congratulations Dan. I know you are enjoying your Newell since you have had it for over 9 months now. Hopefully you are visiting LuxuryCoachLifestyles.com also.

Patrick, the market for used Newells exists because they are such well made coaches. When properly maintained, they will last a lifetime. Dan's coach is 27 years old and I am confident it will give him many years of excellent service. My Newell coach is 14 years old and I can attest that you will find Newell's support for older coaches is better than virtually any other manufacturer. One of the reasons for that is the longevity of the workforce. When you call with a question, the parts and tech support staff at Newell have first hand knowledge of the older coaches as well as the newer ones. Try that with most other brands and you will be VERY disappointed. Additionally, the quality of build of the Newell sets them apart from other manufacturers.

2083 5/30/2006 2:53:46 PM 5/31/2006 Dennis Weller djweller44@comcast.net 1980 Newell Trim I don't know about your trim, but I am considering the purchase of a 1980 Newell Coach and I was wondering if I could talk with you about what its like to own a Newall and what kind of problems you have had. The coach I am looking at is about $35K, no wiring diagrams, 40K miles on upgraded engine and transmission, there is an over drive. the seller says 255 gal fuel capacity. Would you be willing to email or talk on phone? If so, send me email with your phone and I will call you on my nickle. Thanks in advance. Dennis Weller 650-726-3672

2084 5/31/2006 1:48:15 PM 6/4/2006 Matt msell44@hotmail.com Vintage Newell I have become interested in possibly buying a vintage Newell Coach after seeing an older Newell Coach and deciding they look pretty cool. Before doing so, is there anyplace to research Newell Coaches other than this message board? Is there any book available about Newell Coach or anyone in particular to contact about buying or evalauting an old Newell Coach (what to look out for, etc)?
Thanks for any help.
Matt

2094 6/7/2006 8:30:05 AM 6/7/2006 Steve Harrison sharrisonuftsmem@yahoo.com Generator I just purchased a 1992 45ft. Newell coach from McVean Avation. In order to start the generator you have to extend the generator from the coach. I can kill the generator from the switch located above the drivers seat. The switch is labeled on/off. Is this normal?

2095 6/7/2006 8:59:19 AM 6/7/2006 TechTalk Staff TechTalk@newellcoach.com Generator This generator installation was designed to be remote started from the inside of the coach. If you brought the coach to us, the Newell Service Department could diagnose and correct the problem. If this is not convenient, we recommend you contact the generator manufacturer for their nearest authorized service dealer.

A 1992 Newell is likely to be equipped with a 17.5 KW Martin generator. If so, you can contact Martin Diesel at 419-782-9911 to locate a qualified service facility.

2098 6/8/2006 4:51:41 AM 6/8/2006 TechTalk Staff TechTalk@newellcoach.com 1980 Newell Coach Owner's manuals and wiring diagrams do not exist for Newells of this vintage. The situation is more like a twenty-five year old custom home than a Chevrolet. This subject has been discussed previously on the TechTalk board and can be researched, like many common questions, by using the board's search function. Click on the "Find" icon on the left side of the introductory page. In the block "Message" "contains" enter "owners manual." Click on "Start Search." In addition, the Newell Service Department has staff experienced in these earlier coaches. They can perform repairs, and some specific technical questions can be answered by calling Newell at 1-888-3NEWELL. Many service parts for older coaches are available from Newell.

237 1/24/2001 3:47:09 PM 1/24/2001 TechTalk Staff TechTalk@newellcoach.com roof AC from eng. & inverter? Through the years, we have equipped a handful of new coaches to operate a 120 volt air conditioner from a large inverter powered by a high capacity alternator. However, we are not enthusiastic about this approach. While the system can be designed within the theoretical capacities of the individual electrical components, the alternator and inverter are being pushed very hard under these circumstances. In addition, the large amount of DC current flowing between the alternator and inverter to produce the approximately 1500 watts to run an a/c can result in a simple fault (i.e., loose connection) having a serious result (i.e., fire). Further, there is a temptation to push this approach even further, running an a/c from the batteries, a situation we feel is far too aggressive. We suggest using the on board generator to operate the a/c and avoiding the considerable extra expense and risk of attempting to use the inverter for this job. By the way, using the alternator to supply the inverter with current for air conditioning loads is not "free power." The alternator under this type of load will consume an extra 15 hp or so from the main engine. This is power that is not available for climbing hills, etc., and fuel mileage is affected. Operating the generator supplies independent power for the a/cs, and the fuel used is, to some extent, an offset from the decreased mileage of putting this load on the main engine. Others may differ, but this is our opinion. A

2103 6/12/2006 9:31:59 AM 6/12/2006 Troy Tikalsky ttikalsky@earthlink.net Air supply system No air pressure in supply system. When running the motor the air compressor pumps and fills the "brake" system but the "supply" system is no longer being filled. If I use the onboard air compressor to pump up the supply system and then pump the brakes so the engine compressor engages both systems are provided air. Is there a air source valve that selects which source the air pressure is supplied from? If so where would I find this and what would it look like?

We recommend that all air system work be performed by a qualifed technician. A heavy duty truck shop should be able to provide this service.
