I had my 1978 converted from wedge style to "S" cam brakes. I would recommend not putting much money into wedge style brakes. Ping me if you want more info.

1246 3/1/2004 8:52:12 AM 3/1/2004 S. Nyberg ivener@hotmail.com Lift Kits I am interested in purchasing a motorcycle lift kit for 1986 Newell 40ユ with a single rear axle. Does anybody have experience with these kits? If so, how much did it affect the axle weights? Was the lift placed on the front or the rear of the motor coach? Did it affect the steering or handling of the coach? Looking for input good or bad.

Fogging up in cold weather is a real problem. I believe the fans and heat works, but the distribution system leaves much to be desired. I believe it is wood. Is there any fixes or after market products for windsheild defrosting?

1253 3/11/2004 5:37:23 PM 3/14/2004 Bob Marlatt InsideGolf@cablespeed.com 72 Newell - Wiring Barrett, I have a '73 that has been reconditioned professionally. I don't have any wiring diagrams but I do have the (over dash) connections and fuses listed as to what they control. I can only guess that your's is a close match to mine. If you like I can either fax or email you a pdf of the list. I made a print-out and taped it over the fuse/wiring panel where it is handy.

1254 3/14/2004 1:01:58 PM 3/28/2004 Bill wrssr@msn.com 72 Newell - Wiring Hi Bob, was reading tech talk, 3/14/04, I have a 1974 Newell - some of the name tags came off the fuse panel, maybe your '73 and my '74 are similar. What are the chances of you e-mailing me a picture of your fuse panel.

Thanks,
Bill

1256 3/14/2004 5:16:00 PM 3/28/2004 john sands johnfsands@aol.com Defroster 1993 frank,

i think you should check your air conditioning. in most units, when running the defrost, the ac compressor should run. this will help dehumidify the interior, and will lubricate the ac compressor during the winter months.

1266 3/31/2004 2:59:25 PM 4/1/2004 TechTalk Staff TechTalk@newellcoach.com coach height We believe the height of your coach to be 12' 10" (154"). However, considering the nominal 2" clearance, we suggest you physically check the coach against your door opening! A spotter on a ladder with a walkie talkie to the driver would do the job.

1268 4/3/2004 7:00:33 AM 4/3/2004 Barrett J. Wolf bear@bearpaws.com New Tires There seem to be conflicting opinions about 'steering' tires. My RV mechanic, who has years of experience both working on and driving RVs, didn't think it was essential to go with them - of course, this is for my older ('72) Newell, which won't be traveling over 65mph or so.

1269 4/3/2004 7:06:18 AM 4/3/2004 Barrett J. Wolf bear@bearpaws.com rear view camera For anyone who doesn't already have a rearview camera, Radio Shack sells a wireless unit for about $150. that's easy to install. All you need is a hot wire in the bedroom. In my '72, the camera can mount just below the shelving, looking out the back window and the monitor can sit on the dash. You'll also need the Radio Shack auto adapters that correct the voltage for each unit.

1270 4/3/2004 7:16:28 AM 4/3/2004 Barrett J. Wolf bear@bearpaws.com GFI Outlets? Any thoughts on installing Ground Fault interrupter outlets in an older ('72) coach? My understanding is that one GFI placed inline will protect all the outlets 'downstream'. Maybe in the bathroom and in place of the external outlet.

Q
1271 4/3/2004 7:42:59 AM 4/3/2004 TechTalk Staff TechTalk@newellcoach.com New Tires Refer to our comments added to the message above dated 12/4/04. For tire brands and types where "steer axle" tires are offered, they offer better wear characteristics than "drive axle" tires. However, for some tire types, including the 315R22.5 Michelin Pilot tires currently fitted as standard equipment on new Newells, special steer axle tires are not considered necessary by the tire manufacturer and are not offered. Bottom line: if the tire type you are offering offers a special steer axle version, buy it, as the drive axle version would probably experience uneven wear problems if mounted in front. But if none is available, it is an indication that the tire is suitable for all positions.
