Cruise Control
Trying to figure out why my cruise control does not work. When you turn the key to on, the light for the cruise control comes on, regardless of the switch position, then goes out after about 5 seconds. Nothing happens when you move the switch to on, no light, no click etc. When you move the switch to "set" or "resume" their is a click under the dash. I was going to start by replacing the switch, which is a box with "Mexico" on the side, and a hexagon with a C in the center, no part #, no other identification. Any ideas where to get a replacement switch?
Thanks
John

John,
If you have a Bendix unit this link might help.

Thanks to 2Dogs for making this information available to everyone.

The link is broken, so I scanned my Bendix SD-10-1 Service Data manual to .pdf, but it was too big to post in the manuals section of the forum. I sent it to you using email.

John: having looked at the Bendix manual for the SD-10 I see it showing an air cylinder that drives the governor throttle control arm that in turn controls speed. If you have an electronically controlled engine you do not have a control arm on the governor and the SD-10 would not apply in this case. In place of the mechanical governor with control arm you probably have an electronics box in approximately the same position on the engine. Since I just bought a 93 coach with an electronic engine I'm still trying to figure out how the cruise control operates. On my 77 coach with a mechanically governed engine the Bendix cruise would be appropriate, though I replaced its defunct remnants with a King Cruise that has operated successfully for ten years.

John: I was just reviewing Chapter 5 of the DDECIV manual regarding cruise control. I'm not sure which version of DDEC electronic engine control you have, but what I've just read convinces me that DDEC itself provides all the cruise control functions. Given your symptoms and my minimal understanding of how the system works the only advice I can offer is that there may be an issue with an input to the ECM or with the ECM itself (less likely I think). A Detroit Diesel shop that works on DDEC engines will have the necessary electronic equipment to determine what is going on.
