2167 7/25/2006 9:22:04 PM 7/29/2006 Tracy Poole tpoole@newgulfenergy.com Genset won't start Have a 1990 coach (Yanmar genset). Cranks and starts but then quickly dies. Can keep it running by holding throttle in but goes to a low idle and eventually dies when let go. Fuel, oil level, coolant, etc. are all fine. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

2170 7/29/2006 7:23:06 AM 7/29/2006 TechTalk Staff TechTalk@newellcoach.com Genset won't start This is difficult to diagnose without physically examining the generator. We suggest you check the blower on the generator radiator. If it's not turning, you may have a problem with the armature or regulator. If the blower is turing, the fire extinguisher/automatic shutdown could be malfunctioning or the fuel solenoid valve (throttle) may be bad. You may choose to visit the Newell Service Department. For further advice or the name of an authorized Kohler service center, you can also contact Kohler customer service at 1-800-544-2444.

2175 8/2/2006 11:23:58 AM 8/2/2006 Troy Tikalsky ttikalsky@earthlink.net Coolant leak to front heater core There is a coolant leak to the front heater core and it appears the leak is coming from between the genset compartment and the chassis frame. I've traced the lines and they follow the frame but cannot be accessed from inside the genset compartment. Do I need to remove the generator and the passenger side wall to access these lines? The lines are black in color before the genset compartment and are red in color where they emerge behind the front headlights. Could there be a junction hidden somewhere?

2177 8/5/2006 6:08:02 AM 8/5/2006 Bob Fetters jf3brand@idcomm.com Genset won't start We has a similar problem after we had our coach serviced (filter changes and lube). It turned out to be as simple as the service mechanic failed to turn the genset fuel valve on after the service. Enough fuel remained in the system to cause the genset to want to start, but not keep running.

2178 8/5/2006 6:51:53 AM 8/5/2006 Bob Fetters jf3brand@idcomm.com 1994 Newell 8V92 Our '93 38ft. single rear axle DD 8V92 will climb I70 over the Continental Divide better than most cars. We pay attention to all temperatures all the time, but we have never found anytime they were out of range. We just returned from Wall S.D. where it was 111 and the engine temps remained within the drive range. We pay very close attention to the exhaust gas temps when hill climbing as we have experienced engine malfunctions in boosted conditions with other vehicles we own. Our Newell has always stayed within accecptable temperature ranges, but we still remain alert. Our trip to the Black Hills saw our fuel consumption at a little better than 7 MPG while maintaining speed limits both up and down hill. Here at home in the Colorado Rockies, we average between 5.7 to 6 MPG depending on how much uphill there is to the trip. I would not expect to see anything better than 7 in any case and we plan our fuel stops based on 5 MPG to be sure we reach the right priced fuel. (Wall, S.D $3.269, Caspar, Wy $2.869, Denver, CO $2.999) We are wild about the performance of our DD 8V92.

2182 8/5/2006 4:41:06 PM 8/6/2006 Jon Wehrenberg rauchy01 AT comcast.net NEWELL vs PREVOST LIBERTY We have been long term Liberty owners. We are now considering a coach with slides and intend to keep an open mind. I would like to hear about what Newell owners perceive are the benefits of a Newell over a Prevost.

I am not new to this and I do 100% of my own repairs and maintenance so my interest are primarily related to trouble spots, maintenance items, systems design and livability.

I am especially interested in hearing from any current Newell owner that perviously owned a Prevost.

2184 8/7/2006 5:52:23 AM 8/7/2006 Larry Weikart larryweikartsr@aol.com NEWELL vs PREVOST LIBERTY Jon: Here's a quick answer. Having been in the coach/rv business for 20+ years.............If you have a large ego, buy a Prevost. If not, and you want to keep a few $100,000 bills in your pocket, buy a Newell. If for no other reason, just to have the best 24hr hot line in the industry. For someone who completes their own repairs, their knowledge of their product is unsurpassed. Good Luck, Larry

2187 8/7/2006 9:01:37 AM 8/7/2006 Tim Petty timpetty@aol.com NEWELL vs PREVOST LIBERTY I had a 1994 no slide Prevost and will be picking up my 3rd Newell (1 used, 2 new) in two weeks. The sevice people at Newell are great and can talk you through just about anything. I take my coach to the plant once a year for a complete PM and other than that do all the repairs myself.

2191 8/7/2006 5:26:53 PM 8/8/2006 Jon Wehrenberg rauchy01 AT comcast.net NEWELL vs PREVOST LIBERTY Larry,

Ego considerations aside, why is the Newell better? Does it ride better, is it more reliable? Did you have problems with your converter or the Prevost? I'm not opposed to saving money, so I never buy a new Prevost. I let someone else who has more money than me take the depreciation hit.

Tim,

Who was your converter on the Prevost? What have you found to be the benefits of the Newell over the Prevost? (There are some Prevost converters that stink) How is the ride, handling, quality of the systems?

Thanks.

2196 8/9/2006 7:37:46 PM 8/10/2006 Tuga Gaidry tugagaidry@bellsouth.net Who has the highest mileage Newell I was wondering; who owns a high mileage Newell. How many miles are on it and what model year is it? It doesn't matter if the engine was re-built or replaced. I am interested in miles on the chassis. Thanks.

Q
2197 8/10/2006 11:13:38 AM 8/10/2006 Bob Fetters jf3brand@idcomm.com batteries Thanks to Newell's tech staff, and previous forum discussions, I am on the way to solving our tire problems. What a thrill to blow a left front steer at 75 in the hammer lane and heavy interstate traffic. The coach was an awsome performer in handling.

Moving on to my question, has anyone had any experience with Rolls or Surette batteries. Their capacity seems wonderful, but they are heavy. While we don't mind the extra cost, I wonder if the weight versus actual capacity it the best option. Any thoughts out there?
