New tires
Wondering if Newell sells tires at a competitive price. Anyone purchase any from them?

What we found was that Newells prices were only about $50.each higher than what we could get here in Muskogee. But what was important is Newell knows our coaches and what to look for if there is a problem. I just don't trust the tire shops here in Muskogee with my Newell!

there is a long thread on the site about tires. i have a local small truck tire place that is awesome. driving 1500 miles to newell to get tires is a bit excessive, for me that is....

Brad,
We looked long and hard for Tires after I bought our Coach. I got ours at Purcell's Western States Tires in Yuma, AZ. They are a Goodyear Shop but I chose them because they could Spin Balance the Tires. I have heard different sides whether to Spin Balance or not but it was important to me.
Since you will be making the trek from the East to the West, Newell may not be that much out of the way. Newell should have new stock and know what Brand works. Be careful to look at the Lot and Date Codes so you do not wind up getting old stock (I know of at least one report that they bought Tires that were four years on the shelf, not from Newell though)
I chose Goodyear but have also heard allot of good reports on Michelin Tires as well. Tires are like anything else, we all have our own thoughts.
We look forward to seeing you guys again this winter, when do you expect to be there?

Hi Steve
We will be heading right by Camp Newell on our way to Yuma. My thoughts were the same as Sumersgal that Newell knows the coach and they hopefully could be depended on to do a good job if the price was right. Seems every-time I go to Newell I end up spending way more than I hoped to. Times are tight but don't mind spending a FEW dollars more if the work and product is high quality. Perhaps I will call Newell and see if I can get a firm quote. Behooves me as to why they cannot be contacted via email.. they watch this site but do not always respond, very frustrating.
We should be at Senator wash mid november, will be good to see you folks again.
Thinking about getting a plastic welder.

Would be interesting to know what brand tires Newell owners have had blow out on them.
I have michelin on the front and Yokohama on both axles on the rear.
Also is it common to get money back for the old tires if they have a lot of tread left.
I probably have 80% left on 6 tires, tags maybe 50%. No signs of dry rot.

Brad,
My local tire dealer will take old tires "on trade" if they have good tread and have not been retreaded already. My plan is to try to offer them to farmers directly. They would serve well on grain trailers running from field to wet bins etc.

The shop in Yuma stated that they expected to be able to sell my old tires when they Quoted my the price (may have been the 3rd time back for a better price). When they saw my tires they squawked a bit! I wouldn't go over 30 MPH getting there because of how the tires looked after sitting for 7 years.

You have a much better chance of getting something for the tires if they are around the five year birthday.
Depending on their age and condition, and the mood of the person you are dealing with, you could expect anywhere from 50 to 125 bucks.

I found a tire shop here in NH (Stratham Tire) 24.5 Michelin $541. Mounted with new stems
24.5 Yokohamas $359. mounted/w stems. There is no sales tax here and they will X ray the tires and rebate based on condition, good condition can yield $75. each. Newell wants $625. for the Michelin with no rebates.
Seems like a good deal.

Those are good prices. Based on my experience, I would make sure you put "H" rated on the steer axle.

Both those quoted were H rated.

I've disposed of 365 & 315 tires in Oklahoma City, something of a cross-roads for trucking. But almost no one uses these tires on 18 wheeler trucks. Seems the 315 is only used on garbage trucks and they're not tire critical. I believe that nobody but Newell & Prevost use the 365 tires.
So this summer, I got ZERO for my low mileage, 4 & 5 year old Michelin tires. As a result, with the rising price of tires and their short calendar life and the low miles we drive, my tire cost is roughly 25 cents per mile! That's roughly half my fuel cost. As the pirates say, Arrrgh.

Dang,
Would have loved to had those 365 takeoffs to evaluate my low budget experiment with the big meat on the front.
If you guys ever run across someone with used 365's I would love to get a pair just for the experiment.
