2113 6/17/2006 6:00:59 AM 6/18/2006 Tom stctom@yahoo.com zf suspension maintenance How do the costs of ownership of the coaches with ZF suspension compare with the earlier coaches? That is, what is the difference in cost/frequency in replacing shocks in the new versus old suspension? Are there other costs with the hydraulic system on the ZF, if so, what's the cost and frequency?

2115 6/18/2006 8:54:17 AM 6/20/2006 Richard Cook rcook3@elp.rr.com 1975 Newell Coach you hear people knock the 555 Cummins turbo. Unless I could have the new 625 Cat that Newell put in the 2005/06's I just as well have the triple nickel. It's a flatlander for sure, but mine will run 95, I've done it. As far as going up a hill, it will get the job done. I've passed semi's on hills before. Some are faster, some are slower. I was going to put a new Detroit Diesel in place of the 555, but for the money I just kept the 555 and did a complete overhaul.

2118 6/20/2006 5:52:30 AM 6/20/2006 Tuga Gaidry tugagaidry@bellsouth.net Newell Dan, congratulations on your '79 Newell. I'm sure that you will have many years of comfortable travel.
Patrick, there is a Newell for every budget. They range in price from below $20,000 up to $1MM, depending on the model year. If you look hard enough on the RV websites you will find a Newell with your name on it.
I am presently enjoying ownership of my 3rd Newell. I have kept maintenence records over the years, and you can expect to spend about $4,000 per year on repairs. This does not include oil changes, tires, & batteries. The Newell service department currently charges $75/hour which compared to other RV service centers is very reasonable. That coupled with the fact that they know the coach & all of its systems will save you money on the items that you can not repair yourself.
In closing, Newell has three things that make it the only coach to buy: quality, service, and price stability. They hold their value better than other coaches.
Good luck and keep looking for that Newell with your name on it.

2120 6/20/2006 9:40:39 PM 6/21/2006 Michael Day mday@hughes.net 1980 Newell Coach Hopefully someone with a 70's vintage coach will chime in regarding your pressurized water question but by 1992 there was a pressurized water inlet in the wet bay on the drivers side close to the top of the bay, about 1/3 of the way from the rear of the bay. There was also a water tank fill connection about 18" toward the front from the pressurized water inlet and a second water tank fill on the passengers side almost directly across the coach.

2121 6/26/2006 4:13:49 AM 6/26/2006 TechTalk Staff TechTalk@newellcoach.com zf suspension maintenance The ZF components require relatively low maintenance. There is no recommended interval for replacing shock absorbers. The Newell Service Department has replaced only one defective shock since Newell started using ZF suspensions over three years ago.
Commercial truck/bus magazine articles suggest estimated shock life at around 300K miles. Our ZF shock retail for $317. The previous shocks cost $200 retail. For chassis lube, we currently use the same guidelines as our previous suspension, every six months or 15,000 miles. However, we are discussing an extended lube interval with ZF. We use a synthetic grease versus ZFÕs recommended mineral oil grease, so we believe that extending the interval will be acceptable to ZF.
Other ZF recommendations: Check tag axle steering pressure- every twelve months.
Re-pack hub bearings Ð Every two years.
Change ZF differential oil - Every 150,000 miles or three years.

2123 6/28/2006 11:26:46 AM 6/29/2006 Don Cameron dadcameron@earthlink.net Inverter I have a'78 with a Trace 2012 inverter which failed. I bought a Xantrex RV 2512 to replace it and am confused because the coach only has 3 wires to the inverter ( excluding the 12 v cables) Does this mean that there is an aux battery charger and how does the shore power get to the inverter? does the generator bypass the inverter completely?

2125 6/28/2006 2:15:40 PM 6/29/2006 Rich Farr toptin@cox.net noise-1983newellcoach We have a 1979 with 6V92. It also had a disturbing rattle coming from the alternator area although the electrical system worked fine. In order to avoid a breakdown, we had the alternator removed, completely rebuilt and reinstalled. The rattle is quieter - but still there. We have determined it is something to do with design of the alternator drive. Works great. I am no longer concerned about it.

2126 6/28/2006 2:51:10 PM 6/29/2006 S. Nyberg ivener@hotmail.com Electronics Upgrade I am working on upgrading the electronics on my coach and I do not have the AC or DC schematics for my Coach. The Coach is a 1986 40 8V92 with a Vanner Charger and a Vanner 5000W inverter w/ a 24 volt alternator (Thanks for the previous tip on the 24V alternator vs. the 12V alternator. That was a big time and money saver.) I recently purchased to two Outback VFX324M 3500W inverters and all of the misc, items (Mate, Hub, etc). In the old system, plugged into the front of the Vanner Inverter was a 110 cord that was wired back to a relay switch on the back wall of the electronics bay. The relay was to a 110 outlet that was used to plug in the battery charger. As best as I can tell, when the inverter was in use, the relay kept the battery charger off. My question is out of this same relay is an additional conduit line that I have been unable to trace. What else would be connected to that relay? Also in the electronics bay are what I believe are two heat sensitive fuses, housed in wooden brackets. Three questions here, Is my analysis correct that these are heat fuses, what items do these fuses support and are these fuses needed with the electronics technology of today? Thanks

2129 6/29/2006 12:38:19 PM 6/29/2006 TechTalk Staff TechTalk@newellcoach.com Inverter In a 1978 Newell, an inverter is an aftermarket installation. We would not know the details of the installation. You should seek the help of an RV service shop that understands inverter installation and service. They will be able to analyze the current inverter installation, and make the change to the new inverter.
