Default Bottle Jacks

We were looking at Bottle jacks this weekend to purchase and have on the coach. We are wondering what height to buy. They were 12 ton and 20 ton. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Pam

I carry two twenty ton bottle jacks that I purchased at Northern Hydraulics. One is 10" high and the other is 14" high. They both have screwable top shafts to bring them higher before you jack them and they work well. I carry a couple of 10"x10"x1" square blocks to put under them so they don't get pushed into the ground when using them.
Have not had to use them as of this date but if I do they are in the bay and availble.

Wally,

I found two 20 ton jacks, one 10" high and the other 14" high with the screw all the way in. I was not sure if I needed both jacks to be the same height or not. I will get one of each, and add a couple of blocks as well.

Thanks

Jeff

I carry one 20 ton bottle jack and some oak blocks and 2x12s. I have never had to use them when I was traveling, but they are good to have in the bay. I do use them whenever I get under my coach. I raise the coach using air bags and then put the bottle jack or oak blocks under the skid plates to prevent the coach from pinning me down if an air line or bag were to burst.

I carry two 20 ton bottle jacks and 4 6" X 6" blocks of wood (Richard and I found those at Mountain Views in their scrap heap this past August!). What Tuga said in the last sentence can never be repeated too often:

Good topic since I have been wondering about where to set the jacks. Tuga said raise the suspension with the air bags and set the jacks under the skid plates. Exactly what and where are the skid plates? I wouldn't want to have the jacks punch a hole in the floor (although that would be the least of my concerns if I was under the coach at the time).

Tim,

Your coach may not have skid plates welded to the frame like mine does.

It being a 2000 model it may have rollers on the back end. Mine has skid plates welded on the front frame under the generator box and in the rear on the frame that supports the engine.

Contact Newell and ask them where to place a bottle jack or wood oak blocks so that your coach will not come down on you if an air line bursts! They are better at that sort of thing than I am. Also, different model year coaches may have different support points.

This is the most important thing that you can learn about your coach. Take the time to get it right; you'll be glad you did.
