Gaggenau stove
It seems that we have lost the use of our front burner on our glass top stove. We can turn it on but then it goes right off. Anyone have any experience with this stove/situation?
Thanks
Brad

hi brad,
i am making the assumption that it is an electric cooktop since you said glass.
i have a gas one of the same brand in mine, but have repaired a kitchenaid glass cooktop in my home kitchen.
at least on that one, there was wiring harness, switch and one piece element and a indicator light that says it is hot. yours could be different.
if you are handy with an ohm meter, you can check the element once unplugged and no power is applied (you can really light up your eyeballs here) and check to see if the element is totally open circuit. you can compare the resistance reading to the good one.
before that, i would be looking at the wiring, but these are just electric coils, like a huge lightbulb or a toaster and eventually they do just break and stop working.
i am sure there is a simpler approach, but i usually start with the hardest one since that seems to be my nature.
a call to the manufacturer of the stove and getting to their technical support people might help as well. most of the time, inside the cover of the unit once you take it out, has the wiring schematic attached to it, so you can trace everything out.

Brad,
If you can't fix it for a reasonable cost, you might want to look at the Jennaire/Kitchenaide product catalog.
I saw a two burner glass top the same size as the Gagg. at an upscale home store not too long ago. What I liked about it was the touch buttons instead of the knobs. The entire surface was one flat piece of glass. Sweet. It would be a nice upgrade if you have to replace the unit.

sir richard has a great point. the parts are quite expensive to fix these things, expecially if you need an element. i think mine for the kitchenaid was over a hundred bucks.
the g's are very expensive units. i imagine the prices for parts will be very pricey as well.
but i would take it apart anyway and see....but then again, my first solution to everything is to take it apart.....

Thanks guys, I'll try to get into it and diagnose as much as I am able. I tried to look up the
electric stove tops on the web and didn't see anything that would fit. The part that fits into the cut out is 10" X 21"

Brad,
Will the overall topside dimensions fit? http://www.jennair.com/flash.cmd?/#/product/JEC6288AAB/
You may have to enlarge the cutout to get a different model to drop in.
Sooner or later, all of us have to experience the thrill/anxiety/fear of taking a saw to the Newell :-)

Brad,
Since you guys do allot of Dry Camping, I would at least consider LPG instead of Electric if it does need replacing. I don't remember where everything is on your Coach but if it isn't too difficult it would make sense although may be more $$$.

Top side dimensions are 11" X 20" so won't fit.
Steve, From top of counter to drawer is about 3" , plus the space fro top of counter to bottom of overhead is 18" not sure if that is a good distance for gas. the heat may effect the surface under the micro. Besides we have to run the genny on a daily to help with the batts and for hot water. Are you in yuma?

Not yet but we should be there next next week to do some work around my Mother's House (sonny does).
Ours has about 18" from the top of the Counter or 19" from the top of the Burner to the surface under the Micro. I'll give you guys a call when we get there in case you want to take a look. We should be at Yuma Lakes again.

Tricia, Doubloon, Bonnie and me are ready. We brought the CJ, maybe we can meet out at Brad's next week.
I have been out in the Foothills the last couple of days fixing things around my Mom's house. I did find time to go to the Arizona Market Place today and pick up new Side Screens and Power Shades what great deals there, almost as good as Quartzsite!

Brad,
Saw this on another forum. I don't know dimensions, or if it is an option.

Thanks Richard, it would have to be turned 90 degrees and would have to open the cut out.
It has worked off and on so there must be a short. I will have to investigate the possibility of a loose wire.
Thanks again

Great point about the loose wire. We tend to forget our houses don't vibrate like the coaches. I had a fairly serious issue with loose AC connections in my AC control boxes. It showed up in all three.
It's a good reminder to all of us to check those high current connections.
I almost had a small fire due to a bad connection. It melted the wire nut, and some of the insulation.
