Is there something in the RV world similar to a Home Inspector? These are very complex and expensive vehicles and I would be willing to pay an "expert" a few hundred dollars to thoroughly examine a unit I intend to purchase.
Some areas have people who advertise themselves as RV inspectors and you can sometimes get a mobile RV tech to check out a rig for you (you pay him by the hour in most cases). You may also need to get separate inspectors for chassis/engine versus the house part, since mobile techs usually don't do chassis work.

I have found that the best way to get reliable and knowledgeable guy is to contact several of the local campgrounds and ask who they recommend for mobile service or pre-buy inspections.
