Default Power Pulse experiences, Please

I am considering buying 2 power Pulse 12v for my house batteries. Newell is installing them on all coaches now and i have found them online for $40 ea. and should take only a few minutes to install myself. Karl Blade told me that they tested it with all battery types wet, agm, gel and had good experiences. Any one out there have these working for a period of time where you may feel they offer real results ? Thanks...

Larry,

When I purchased my AGMs from Newell in January 2006 I installed the Power Pulse units. My engine batteries lasted 4 years; normally my engine batteries last 2 years. So I got double the life out of them.

The house batteries which are supposted to last about 4 to 5 years are starting to last about 10 to 12 hours instead of 22 hours like they did when they were new back in 2006.
I have not equalized my batteries yet; I expect that procedure to add a few hours of use.

For the price, I think that Power Pulse units are worth the investment. They can be used on your next set of batteries so they are really a good investment IMO.

Tuga,
I wouldn't be surprised if the Equalize and Power Pulse are not doing the same thing. It does sound like you are getting maximized battery life. I will most likely look into these for our '82.

I was using the power pulse units long before Newell started using them. I had them on my 78 for 5 years and now have them on my 88 for 7 years with Cat maintanice free batteries and they are going strong. I was at a Newell rally in the Florida keys about 6 years ago and a guy who I think worked at Newell saw them in my coach and called me a couple weeks later asking me where I got them. About 3 monthes Newell was putting them in there coaches. I suspect he got some kind of reward from the company for submitting a new idea that the company adopted. I would not be without them, there not very costley, easy to install and they make the batteries last a long time.

When I bought my '93 2 1/2 years ago that's the first thing I added. One for each set. They are still going strong. I think the batteries were about 2 years old when I bought the coach and hope to get a few more years out of the AGM's.

My Freedom 458 Invertor/Charger has an eqalize function. It appears that is what the PowerPulse does. Has anybody proven an advantage for the PowerPulse if batts are equalized otherwise?

The power pulse and equalizing the batteries are not exactly the same thing as best I understand it.

The power pulse, apparently through magic, sends some sort of frequency through the battery plates to breakup or discourage sulfite crystals from forming on the plates. The crystal coating on the plates reduces the efficiency of the battery.

Equalizing the battery does two things. One, it kind of boils the water and stirs up the liquid. One battery site says that the liquid will stratify. Two, I also understand that equalization is supposed to refresh the surface of the lead plate.

So, in my way of looking at it, the power pulse should help delay the buildup on the plates, whereas, at best equalization is supposed to burn it off when you equalize.

So are saying that you think the batteries require an Equalizing phase even if they have the PowerPulse installed?

Richard, that is the first complete explanation of what Power Pulse does, and what equalization does. Thank you very much. I am buying the Power Pulses! My current charger (Progressive Dynamics) has a desulfating mode, also, in addition to the 3 stages of charging it offers.

i had them on the 90 and just tput them on the 02. i figured after spending a zillion dollars on 6 agm batteries, 65 bucks is a worthwhile investment just to protect the bigger bucks. hey, even if they dont do anything, they look cool flashing those red lights.

btw, i paid 110 bucks shipped for 3 of them.

Default Power-Pulse

My Newell owning trucker friends alerted Karl Blade at Newell to the Power-Pulse. They were operating refrigerated trailers which have their own diesel engine & battery. Before Power-Pulse, what with all the sitting & non-use on such trailers, batteries were only lasting twelve months. After Power-Pulse batteries were still going strong at trade-in after sixty months usage.

While I'd have to call it magic too, for the price and even possible benefits, I've been using Power-Pulse on all my Newell batteries for seven years now.

Barry,

Do you have Lifeline AGM batteries?

Do you equalize them and if so, how often?

AGM batteries are too rich for my blood, just using lead-acids. I keep my batteries merged whenever plugged in, we never dry camp and I've never equalized them.

We just paid about $3800 for 4 new batteries and put 2 pulse power gadgets on them ($104 is cheap insurance to keep the batteries running longer)....also put 1 on the 2 batteries in the stacker trailer. Will let you know how it goes..

Jeff,

Just curious, what kind of batteries did you buy for that amount of money?

Just got 3 on Ebay for $40 each. The seller has 2 left....it's a "Buy It Now", or "Best Offer" auction. He's asking $49.99, but I offered $40 and got immediate acceptance. Here's the link:
