2304 11/17/2006 11:54:15 AM 11/18/2006 Bill Burch bmburch@swbell.net new diesel fuel I have found the weight of my foot has more to do with fuel mileage than anything else. On my 99 with dual slides I get 6 mpg, towing, if I'm really pushing it and up to 8 mpg if I back off to the 60 to 65mph range.

2305 11/18/2006 6:23:08 AM 11/18/2006 Tuga Gaidry tugagaidry@bellsouth.net Minor slide problem When I restart the engine after driving for a while, the transmission will not go into Drive or Reverse. It just beeps when I select D or R. If I engage the retract button on the front slide, then the transmission will engage! The problem is intermittant but seems to be getting worse.

Has anyone had a similar problem?

2307 11/18/2006 7:50:28 AM 11/18/2006 TechTalk Staff TechTalk@newellcoach.com Minor slide problem There are number of possibilities, including a faulty lock solenoid, a misaligned proximity sensor, a "creeping" slide, etc. We suggest you call the Newell service department at 1-888-3NEWELL (1-888-363-9355) and we can assist with the diagnosis and correction.

2312 11/21/2006 3:49:14 PM 11/23/2006 Tuga Gaidry tugagaidry@bellsouth.net new diesel fuel My 1999 Newell 45' w/2 slides will average 8.25 mpg at 60 mph not towing a toad. 7.75 mpg pulling a Honda Pilot at 65 mph. If you can stand driving 55 mph you can approach 9.00 mpg not towing a toad. These mileages are from a series 60 engine w/Allison 6 speed transmission.
Hope this helps.

How long are you parked? Both house and chassis batteries?

We often leave our coach unplugged for a month at a time during winter weather and both house and chassis batteries are fine.

Note, you should have a cut-off switch that will disconnect all house battery functions from the batteries, thus eliminating slow maintenance battery drains that will accumulate over time. Do you shut that off?

Q
2314 11/24/2006 6:29:58 AM 11/24/2006 Tuga Gaidry tugagaidry@bellsouth.net 84 newell Ken,

Mobil Delvac 1, 5W40 synthetic is what I have always used in my engine and generator.

You may want to check with Newell service, 1 888 9 NEWELL.

[Editor's note: Mobil Delvac is a very high quality synthetic, is used by Newell as original factory fill, and is recommended by Newell for subsequent use. However, any multi-vis oil meeting API service classification CL-4 can be used with Newell diesel generators up through generator engines built to 2006 and earlier emissions standards. Diesel engines, including generator engines, built to 2007 emissions standards, which are expected to be delivered beginning in Summer 2007, require API CJ-4 lubricating oil.]

2315 11/24/2006 6:36:00 AM 11/24/2006 Tuga Gaidry tugagaidry@bellsouth.net My first Newell Yesterday I stumbled upon my first Newell. I was driving to Thanksgiving dinner with my daughter, and as we drove we passed a 1987 Newell parked in an oilfield service company parking lot. We stopped and I told my daughter that this looked like my old '87 Newell 40'. We asked permission to look inside the coach and sure enough it was my old coach. It had the same carpet, bedspread and valance material, and it was in fairly good shape for its age. It had 212,671 miles on it and the paint job(Imron) was still shiney. Seeing that Newell really brought back some fond memories. What a great Thanksgiving gift!

2316 11/26/2006 12:53:40 PM 11/29/2006 Tuga Gaidry tugagaidry@bellsouth.net Minor slide problem Just a quick update: my problem has disappeared! I used the coach this weekend, and not one time did the problem surface! I ordered 2 solenids from the service dept, guess I will just keep them as spares. I located the locking pins on the top of the slide room. If you stand on the driver's seat, you can see them when the slide is completely retracted. The pins are a tight fit it seems so I guess I'll just wait and see if the problem returns.
I love my slides!

2321 11/29/2006 6:44:44 AM 12/2/2006 Michael Day mday@hughes.net 1989 Newell inverter Brad, you don't give the year model of your Newell but my '92 has a 1,000 watt inverter. The switch in the bath and by the bed just activate the 110 vanity light and outlets in the bath and possibly the outlets by the bed although I haven't checked them. I have another inverter switch on the console over the microwave that activates the microwave and a couple of outlets in the living room, one on the drivers side plus the one that provides power to the TV/VCR/DVD/Satellite in the front overhead. Other plugs are not connected to the inverter in my coach.

I have not been able to find a listing of current and past model designator. I'm used to seeing , for example, Prevost uses XL, XLV,or XLII. Sorry to just drop in but sure wish someone would set me straight.

Thanks, Larry

Q
2325 12/7/2006 6:45:45 PM 12/9/2006 Michael Day mday@hughes.net Model designations Larry, I understand that the 2000 series of Newells starting with the 1990 model year coaches, although one or more 1990 models were likely constructed on the 'Classic' design. I believe the new P2000i series of Newells were first available as 2006 model year coaches introduced in 2005. I have not heard of pre 1990 Newells being given a 'model designator' at the time. The term 'Classic' model is frequently used to refer to pre 1990 style Newells.

Q
2327 12/11/2006 11:54:58 AM 12/11/2006 TechTalk Staff TechTalk@newellcoach.com Flat floors No, some quad slide Newells have HWH slide-outs. From 1996 through late 2002, all of Newellユs slide mechanisms were produced by the HWH Corporationm, with one, two, three, or four slide-outs per coach.

Beginning with coach 650 delivered in January 2003, all Newell slide-outs have been the Valid electric type.

Flat floor type slide-outs are used only in locations that benefit from this feature. Most coaches have a combination of flat floor and conventional slide-outs, depending on the specific requirements, and the number of flat floor slides will vary.
