. . . Another area of concern in some motorhome construction is that the slide
may reduce the motorhome ability to protect the passengers in a roll over. The
fact that some much of the side of the motorhome is cut away for the slide
reducing the strength of the vehicle. I doubt that these issues will affect a Newell
coach but may be a factor in other models.
'Tim's observations' relating to security aboard a coach with slides. Now take a look at this. . .

- Braun Racing's Tornado Encounter -
“Owners Motorhome Destroyed In Accident”
-
May 7, 2003 (Mooresville, North Carolina) – Ed Susen (aka Tuna), motorcoach
driver for Braun Racing team owner - Todd Braun - was the latest victim of a tornado in
the Midwest
. With his self labeled - Tuna Tour 2003, Tuna and the Newell motorhome
began their trek to the Gateway International Raceway yesterday in preparation for
this weekend’s NASCAR BGN Series event. As he approached the Illinois state line
last evening, Tuna literally drove right into a tornado. The force picked up the
motorhome and tossed it around before depositing it into a roadside ditch
.
Tuna, who was thrown around heavily in the encounter, received only minor injuries. Being
towed behind the motorhome was a brand new enclosed trailer containing a company van,
scooter and golf cart.
