Strong Exhaust Smell While Driving
I seem to have a problem with a strong exhaust smell throughout our newell when driving and the smell makes it almost unbearable to drive. Where should I start my search for tracing down the exhaust smell?

Do you have the genset running ? if so start there and if not inspect the flex hose that leads to the muffler next and then just follow all the exposed pipes. If nothing check the exhaust coming from the roof for the Aquahot and Genset. sounds like you have a possible crack in a pipe that can bleed into an air way and gets sucked into the coach

I would check my manifolds for an exhaust leak and I would also check for any oil leaks from valve covers etc. Look the whole thing over and if don't know really what to look for you better just get it over to a mechanic and not drive it at all until you get the issue taking care of. You don't want to get sick or have an accident from breathing the diesel exhaust. I have owned several Newell's and unless I was idling with a side window open it was rare for any kind of exhaust to get into the coach.

Do you smell exhaust or diesel? I know you said exhaust, but some can't or don't differentiate the smells. In addition to the obvious inspection the others have mentioned, you should see black soot anywhere you have a diesel exhaust leak.
Don't overlook the aquahot for a diesel leak, even if you aren't running it in the summer, the diesel fuel can leak there. I say this because I had a diesel odor problem related to a split fitting in the AH.
