Silverleaf
I was thinking of using the Silverleaf Vmspc program and had a couple questions.
Will it work with a 91 Dd 8v92?
What kind of cost am I looking at for the cable and interface?
Can the cable be installed by an owner, or doe it need to be done at a shop?
Thanks
John

Hi John,
Yes, It will work with your 8V92 according to Silverleaf and yes you can install your self if you feel comfortable tackling the install and cable is around 300.00

Silverleaf VMSpc
Attached are two photos that show the latest configuration for my digital dash. Using a ASUS 12.1 touch screen tablet, the digital dash fits snug into the dash area, and should not require any mounting or velcro. The regular dash air pressure gauges are still visible.
You can see the engine is running at fast idle. Transmission, fuel, mpg, and trip information is shown on the left. Speed and RPM in big letters at the top, with tempature information, boost and time shown in the center. Engine performance information is in grey shown on the bottom and changes every few seconds. To the right is Microsoft Street & Trips which is connected to an external antenna and is in real time. On the task bar at the very bottom is a tab to bring up the full screen of CoPilot which is also attached to another external antenna.
As you can guess, I'm having fun with this thing.

Nice setup, like the look, and the ability to customize the information. Any particular reason for both M/S streets and trips and Co-Pilot?

Chester,
I originally mounted my screen where yours is, but I couldn't reach it, especially when driving. I moved mine to the side by the radio & I can now change it.

John, I like M/S Streets for planning, and Co/Pilot for alerts as to size and height issues. Gordon, it is a recent addition and I have not driven with it yet, but I do not think I will have to touch it while driving, so we will see.

Very Coool! What a fun feature that appears to be. Nothing like those big boy toys! My youngest boy would really be itching to drive the Newell even more with this set-up.

I really like the glass digital dash installs. Glass Dash | SilverLeaf Electronics, Inc.
Our Gallery of Fine Dash Installations | SilverLeaf Electronics, Inc.
2000 Country Coach XL Prevost Glass Dash Install
From the silverleaf website:
This is one of many coaches that we have retrofitted the VMS 640CL Glass Dashes to that originally were manufactured with the Country Coach Compudigital Dash. This is a direct replacement that features full solid-state electronics vs a windows based computer. We most often and regularly perform the retrofits on-site by flying to the coach. This was an installation performed in Tucson Arizona.

Yes Ed, the glass dash is very attractive. The advantage for me for using the ASUS tablet and VMSpc are: my dash and all gauges remain in place and functioning, the glass dash would require a large hole cut in the dash, the tablet is very flexible including one or more GPS systems in the window, the tablet can be used for other purposes, and finally, the cost is a major difference. With a newer coach, the glass dash would be preferred.

Would love to put a glass dash in a newer coach, although I think Chester's idea is almost as good.
Chester, I like M/S for planning also, haven't tried co-pilot live yet while traveling, maybe this w/e.

What operating system is your ASUS tablet running? I would definitely be interested if I could run a flavor of Linux but I would be uncomfortable if I was depending on windows.

I am running Windows 7 on the ASUS. I am a fan of Windows 7, but a little research should tell you if this size tablet will run Linux.

Either way it is a nice system but the glass dash is quite attractive.

Here's another chance or opportunity for someone who is creative and looking to help others by building a customized dash replacement for their luxury coach. Great way to obtain support via this community. We would gladly support and endorse you around here. This actually goes for any other creative ideas or offerings that benefit members and readers.

Although this has nothing to do with silverleaf, has anyone replaced existing gauges with digital ones. I've been thinking of redoing my dash, moving some of the gauges out of the center with the thought of mounting a tablet into the center, with all the switches and air pressure etc gauges more to the edges of the dash. Any recommendations as to replacement digital gauges, will sending units also have to be replaced?

If you're planning on running VMSpc on the laptop, don't spend your money on any of these:
Speed
RPM
Oil Pressure
Fuel Temperature
Barometric Pressure
Throttle Position (%)
Output Torque
Torque
Horsepower
Coolant Level
Engine Temperature
Turbo Boost
Instantaneous MPG
Fuel Rate
Load (%)
Cruise Control Set Speed
Battery Voltage
Fuel Gallons Used (since last software reset)
Time Engine Has Run (since last software reset)
Engine Hours
Miles (since hardware reset)
Gallons Used (since hardware reset)
What you might want to do is concentrate on what they don't monitor, like a pyrometer on both left and right banks BEFORE the turbo. Mine is a single gauge mounted after the turbo which is going to be a lower reading.

John, if you look at the photos I posted using the ASUS tablet, everything I need is on the tablet except for the two air pressure gauges which are visible just to the left of the tablet. I do not know if your 91 has a diagnostic connector near the dash, but if it does, products from Silverleaf should do the job without destroying your dash.

Thank you Chester, I was able to answer my own dumb question by going to the VMSpc web page.
System Requirements -Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000, XP, Vista, or 7. Windows 95 users require a special version.
-Pentium 120 or better CPU
-16 mb RAM, Hard Drive
-RS-232 Serial Port or USB Port
Why I was asking is that you can load just what you need with Linux, no operating system bloat or memory leaks, etc... Based on the system requirements they require windows drivers. I'm probably too paranoid, but I'm not sure that I would trust Bill Gates monitoring my coach.

The SilverLeaf coach system is one of my favorite parts of the coach. Half of the time I don't know what the hell I'm doing. But it doesn't mean I'm not having fun learning.
