I have read that people are adding engine oil (Like for a chain saw) to their diesel fuel. They claim it makes up for the lost lubrication properties of the Ultra Low Sulphur Fuel and is required for the older engines to lubricate the pump and top end of the engine. They are adding 1 oz per gallon of fuel.

Is this necessary or wise?

Anybody already doing this?

David: There are a large number of pre-ULSD engines still on the road and if there were a real lubricity problem with ULSD they would be in the junkyard instead. So, is adding oil to achieve adequate lubricity require? In my opinion: "no". Is it wise? In my opinion it is not unwise, just probably a minor extra expense and if the added oil costs less than diesel it is even less not unwise.

Summary: no harm, no benefit

everything I know just ain't so.
