Default 1966 Streamliner

Hi, I am new to this site. My husband and I bought a 1966 Streamliner to restore and were hoping to find out if there is anyone out there doing the same thing or know of any resources that we could turn to. We may consider having a company give us a quote on the work. Currently we are storing it in Canada at our daughters. It is really neat, complete with back porch. We plan to retire in two years and would love to travel in this classic, however it does need some big time TLC. I believe this was the pre Newell motorhome. Am I correct? Diann

Hi and Welcome,
Actually I am new to the site myself. I was interested in how Newell got started after seeing the comment you made as to Streamliner being a predecessor to Newell. I found this interesting article (see the url below). It appears you are correct LK Newell started out with a Streamliner.

Default 1967 Newell Steamline Comes Home

This 1967 Newell Streamline, VIN 8005, has just been purchased by Newell Coach and will be returning to the factory in Miami, Oklahoma shortly. The coach appears to be in reasonably good condition and is highly original. It includes some features unique to the Streamlines and a few very early Newells, including side skirts that roll under the body at the bottom and very wide, "super single" tires front and rear (no duals on the back axle). Originally powered by a 330 cu. in. Ford gas V8, it was upgraded to a Lincoln 460 cu. in. V8 a few years ago. This coach was one of a small number of the initial production in Miami that Mr. Newell sold and titled under the "Streamline" name before he adopted his own name to the product. Plans are currently being formulated to restore this coach, after which it will be available to view at Newell and may make an occasional appearance at FMCA conventions. An informal group of three old-time Newell employees will consult on the restoration.

The May issue of MotorHome Magazine has an interesting story on the Steamline and early Newell motorhomes.

Great information Karl. I am always impressed by organizations that take interest in their past and the restoration of 8005 will retain an important piece of Newell's history.

Newell is blessed with having a work force that has so many years of experience. That knowledge is a significant benefit to owners of older Newell's.

I look forward to seeing your new acquisition when I bring my coach back for service.

«~» My lead brought me great joy !
«~» Karl, what a great and lovely gesture.
It will benefit not only the Newell Coach Family but also the complete RV Community.

«~» If I may :
«~» Before the first Moves of this Project and the Transport to the Newell Coach Plant, I would suggest
to pay a visit at the 'National Automotive and Truck Museum of the United States' Special Website.

«~» They have built a 'Grand Website' immortalizing the restoration of 'The GM Futurliner #10,' documen-
ting with photos the complete restoration from the location where it was sitting, to the relocation and up
to the complete final piece of art.

«~» To complement this photo restoration, they added an incredible index, an unsurpassed history and
other Futurliners.

«~» Certainly something in this order would enhance the 'NewellClassic.com' website.

«~» In this same category
»»» »»
(Both pictures illustrate the same Futurliner with the 'Fido Colors' and 'Repainted' for the auction)
«~» Pictured is the Canadian FIDO Futurliner . . .
. . . this Futurliner was bought for $4 million at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in January of 2006.
. . . 20,000 attendees stood and cheered as the frenzied bidding rewrote the Barrett-Jackson record for a
vehicle sold by more than $1 million dollars included in the above website.

Mr. Karlb, I was wondering if this Streamline is the same unit previously displayed at the Newell Rally in Napa, Cal?

It appears certain that the 66 Steamline is not the same coach that is the subject of this thread. Our vintage Newell is a 1967 "Streamline" built by Newell in Oklahoma. (It was built and titled as a "Streamline," as Mr. Newell had the rights to use the Streamline name for a period of time following purchase of the operation from Steamline Trailer. He began using "Newell" as the brand name sometime during 1967). Further, the Steamline we have acquired is not equiped with a back porch.

We look forward to restoring our Newell Streamline.
